Success in big retail – a mission (im)possible? This is a question that not only starting food businesses are dealing with. In this Live Session we want to take a look at the specific requirements of Dutch retailers and the challenges that food producers might face when working with them, and vice versa. And we also want to discuss how you can make sure that your products stay on the shelf, once you’ve entered big retail. We have invited experts from two important players on the Dutch market to share their opinion and insights: Lidl and Crisp. 

These are the topics that we will cover:
– What drives the buyers to purchase & what do they need from you?
– What are the certification requirements for the production?
– How do logistics and distribution work? 
– How do you calculate prices & margins?
– How do promotions work and what budget do you need to allocate for that? 
– When are the mutation dates of the different categories?
– And of course, all the mistakes you can make when getting started within retail. 

About the experts
Victor Dingemans – Victor is Buyer/Category Manager at Lidl for the categories cured meat, beer, soda, water, juices and syrups. Lidl is the third largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands and has more than 440 stores all over the country. 

Jochem de Bont – Jochem is Category Manager at Crisp, where he is responsible for curating and procuring their fresh food assortment. Crisp was founded in 2018 and is the first app-only online supermarket in the Netherlands, delivering great quality food straight from the source.
