On food staycation in the Netherlands

With today's travel restrictions, it's time to explore our own country during the summer. The Netherlands has always been a popular travel destination for many people, this summer we will be vacationing in our own country! Kitchen Republic will be taking you through the most fun food activities in the coming weeks for the ultimate summer feeling.

During our tour, we have already stopped by Sammies' ice cream sandwiches in Amsterdam West and Sophie Eats' new deli in the Rivierenbuurt neighborhood:

Next stop: Yaya Kombucha

On the Kitchen Republic site, we are in good company. In addition to brewers Lowlander and Brewed by Women, we count microbrewery Yaya Kombucha among our neighbors. They opened their brewery three years ago and in the meantime, the popularity of this drink took off. Kombucha is an ancient drink made from fermented green or black tea, not too sweet and nice and fresh!

Yaya founders Charlotte and Tom are kombucha fans from the very beginning. While founding their own kombucha brand, they worked day and night to make their dream come true. While founding a business, it is inevitable that you run into certain issues. From the global kombucha community, Charlotte and Tom got a lot of help answering those questions. Brewing kombucha connects, says Charlotte, "The beauty of kombucha is that there is a global community of enthusiasts and home brewers. And with the popularity of kombucha, that community is now growing in the Netherlands as well. We know that from the beer world, but for a soft drink, that's unique."

"By sharing our organic kombucha starter and brew recipe, we are nurturing that community and anyone can now get started with their own style of kombucha at home."

The not-so-secret ingredients of kombucha are heat and time, exactly the elements you have on hand this summer. Therefore, brewing your own kombucha is a perfect activity to pass the coming time. These were exactly the thoughts of Yaya Kombucha and they introduced their own scoby to give kombucha lovers a helping hand. A scoby, also called a kombucha fungus, is a culture of yeasts and bacteria. The starter of any batch of kombucha, with which you can brew for years. The more kombucha souls, the more joy says Charlotte, "By sharing our organic kombucha starter and brewing recipe, we are nurturing that community and anyone can now get started with their own style kombucha at home."

Does staying home during the summer sound boring? With the scoby from Yaya, you can now brew your own kombucha and experiment with your favorite flavors all summer long. Let's go!

Yaya Kombucha's scoby is on sale now through Yaya Kombucha's webshop and at Ekoplaza.
